About

Sheltering Hearts Foundation

Sheltering Hearts Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to offering a safe and nurturing transitional home for women and children facing housing instability, hardship, and family crisis. Founded by Christa Holloway, the foundation was created from firsthand experience with the challenges women face and a commitment to providing safe, supportive housing that promotes stability, healing, and long-term independence.

At Sheltering Hearts, we believe that safety, stability, and community are essential for rebuilding lives. Our mission is to provide secure transitional housing in a supportive, homelike environment where women and children can stabilize, regain confidence, and begin their journey toward independence.

While Sheltering Hearts does not provide direct social or clinical services, we partner with and connect women and families to trusted community organizations for mental health care, education, employment support, and other essential resources. By combining safe housing with strong community connections, we help families move from crisis toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.

Our Program

Addressing the Challenges in Sacramento

Our Community in Focus

Sheltering Hearts Foundation recognizes the growing housing instability facing women and families in Sacramento, California. Rising housing costs, limited affordable housing, and economic hardship have left many women and children vulnerable to homelessness and unsafe living situations. Our work is rooted in addressing this urgent need by providing safe transitional housing and pathways to long-term stability.

Women & Families in Crisis in Sacramento

Thousands of women and children in Sacramento experience housing insecurity each year, often as a result of domestic violence, financial hardship, or sudden life crises. Local shelters and transitional housing programs regularly operate at or near capacity, leaving many families without safe options during critical moments.

By offering safe, stable transitional housing and connecting families to community resources, Sheltering Hearts Foundation helps bridge the gap between crisis and permanent housing.

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of housing instability for women and families in Sacramento, with thousands seeking housing support each year through local shelters and community programs.
